This was the first Balloon Fiesta we visited. We left Ohio at the end of August 1978 and eventually arrived at our new home in New Mexico early September. I remember my Senior year of High School starting pretty much the day after we arrived. Fast forward a month and here we are sometime in the first two weeks of October at this spectacle. There were 273 entries that year. This amazing event was just beginning. Now we watch these balloons fly over our home each year as there are close to a 1000 that launch for 5 days and 2 weekends. When you hear the sound of a dragon, you know it is the time to take a peak out the window.

Memoirs: Harry Seelman
Here is a pdf copy of Harry Seelman’s Memoirs. It might take a minute to appear depending on your internet speed. If you see a page of pictures that have letters on it, that means I’m collecting names to identify these people. Feel free to leave me a comment so I can make a sheet of names to share with all.

Welcome!
My name is Robert Coss. I married Catherine Manogue (Esther and Ed’s youngest daughter) in 1986. I want to build this site as a place where we can gather and share our family’s treasures.
Right now, this site is open to the world, meaning anyone might stumble upon it and see what’s here. But I might need to close it off, depending on what we add. Suppose my mother, God bless her memory, were still with us, and I told the story of how, one Thanksgiving, she baked pumpkin pies and forgot the sugar. 🙂 (It just meant we piled on the whipped cream.) I’d want to keep that private, not to shame her but to honor her as she was—human and loving, even in her mistakes.
Making the site private would mean asking people to sign up for a username and password, a small price for guarding the stories that bind us together. We’ll see how it goes, but for now it is public.
As I build, I will be adding Catherine’s side of the family as well as mine. I’ll try to keep it simple to navigate for everyone. I look forward to meeting you and hearing your stories. For now, leaving a comment on any page is the best way to get in touch with me. (You may need to click on the title of the post to access the post in order to see the comments box.)
